School will be open for half day Friday 26 June Posted on June 25, 2026June 25, 2026 by Astrid Broderstad Dear Parent/Carer, I hope you have all managed to keep safe and well during the recent period of extreme weather warnings and the associated risk to life. Thank you for your understanding and support. While temperatures have been high across the region, classroom environments become significantly hotter when occupied by 30 students and staff, making conditions increasingly challenging and potentially unhealthy when temperatures exceed 30°C. With this in mind, and based on the current Met Office forecast, we are planning to open to students tomorrow morning at the normal time, but only until 11:30am, following the same arrangements that were in place on Tuesday. Students will attend school for Lessons 1–3, after which they will return home and complete Lessons 4–5 online. We are grateful for your ongoing support in ensuring that students travel safely to and from school and arrive appropriately prepared for the warm weather conditions. Uniform Expectations To support student comfort and wellbeing, the following temporary uniform arrangements remain in place: Students should wear the summer PE kit. All students may wear loose-fitting black gym shorts. Following feedback from families, we have made a reasonable adjustment to permit leggings. Where possible, these should be made from a lightweight, breathable material suitable for warm weather. Students who are unable to wear the full summer PE kit should attend in the correct school uniform, less their blazer. Students are also encouraged to bring: A refillable water bottle. Sun protection where appropriate. Any medication they may require. We will continue to monitor weather conditions closely and communicate any further updates should circumstances change. Students will be allowed to continue wearing PE kit next week. Thank you again for your understanding, cooperation and continued support. Kind Regards, Lee Morgans Deputy Headteacher

Moovahome and Ben Kingsley sponsor The Dorcan Academy Posted on November 23, 2022November 23, 2022 by Astrid Broderstad Local businesses support The Dorcan Academy sports teams: Dorcan Academy former students, Ashely Kane (Moovahome) and Ben Fitzgibbon (Ben Fitzgibbon Property Sales), have joined forces with Adam Westall at Silverback, to provide the whole school with brand new sports kits. Ashley and Ben kindly donated time and funds to make this happen for our school. Both were instrumental in design, planning and organisation of the whole operation. These beautiful new sports tops will ensure we look the part whilst representing our wonderful school. Ashley and Ben both expressed how proud they were to be back visiting the Academy. Ashley said he was delighted to be able to team up and plan and provide for his former school. Ben also took to social media to tell everyone what a good day it was. Mr Allen, who kindly gave up his time to organise everything for the teams said “We at The Dorcan Academy would like to share our deepest gratitude for these extremely generous local businesses. We are truly thankful for everything they have done. The generosity from them is overwhelming, and their support is invaluable. This makes every opportunity to represent the school an even more fulfilling one. In some way or another, no matter how big or small you’re changing lives and making a difference. Thank you. With finances in education being so stringent we are extremely grateful to find sponsorship that benefits the lives of our young people. If there are any other generous businesses locally that would like to offer support, we would be extremely grateful to hear from you!”

Year 10 Sports Afternoon Posted on August 27, 2021August 28, 2021 by Astrid Broderstad In a year of postponements, cancellations and adaptations, Year 10 Sports Afternoon was a rare opportunity to bring at least part of The Dorcan Academy together to celebrate students epitomising the Dorcan values. Badminton, Football, Rounders and Netball were first on the menu and it was clear from the outset that the Year 10s were loving having the opportunity to get competitive and enjoy an afternoon of sport with the rest of their Year. After an hour of drop shots, half volleys, no-balls and bounce passes, it was over to the field for some alternative athletics events. Anyone that dared to venture onto the field would have been welcomed by sack races, eggs and spoons, hoops and flying wellies as Eagles, Falcons, Ospreys and Kingfishers tried to run, jump and throw their way to glory. Kingfisher went into the final event in the lead, but the Tug-of-War can be full of surprises. The Eagle tutor groups showed the teamwork and resilience to overcome their challengers, but even being undefeated in every pull was not enough for 10EY1 to stop the mighty 10EYA becoming overall champions in the inaugural Year 10 Sports Afternoon. Their togetherness, commitment and leadership, not to mention their skill, power and intelligence took them to the title of Year 10 Sports Day Champions! An incredible afternoon enjoyed by all, where students were kind, showed respect and absolutely tried their best. Congratulations to 10EYA on their victory, but the real winner, on the day, was competitive sport!
