We’re committed to preparing students for the challenges of the 21st century by providing them with a robust and comprehensive subject foundation.
Students who opt for Engineering will foster essential Dorcan character virtues, including resilience, self-discipline, courage, and personal responsibility, which will prove invaluable in their future endeavours.
Throughout the course, students will acquire valuable insights into various engineering disciplines, including the practical application of science and mathematics. This course is structured to not only prepare students for further education but also to offer them an understanding of the various engineering fields, enabling a seamless transition into further education or the industry.
In Engineering last year, 37% of students achieved grades L2D* to L2M; and 70.4% achieved grades L2D* to L2P.
V Cert Technical Awards are a suite of high-quality technical qualifications which are appropriate for Key Stage 4 learners. They are a technical alternative to GCSEs with equivalent levels of rigour and challenge. The Level 1/2 Technical Award in Engineering is designed to provide learners with the skills, knowledge and understanding of the applied study of good engineering practices and an understanding of working in the sector.
To be awarded Level 1/2 Technical Award in Engineering, learners are required to successfully complete 2 mandatory units. Learners must also achieve a minimum of a Level 1 pass in the internal and external assessments.
Mandatory units
Unit 01 Understanding the Engineering World (H/616/8968)
Unit 02 Skills and Techniques in Engineering (K/616/8969)
The Level 1/2 Technical Award in Engineering consists of 2 assessment components:
• external assessment – practical test. This will assess the application of knowledge and skills acquired throughout Unit 01
• internal assessment – Unit 02 is an internally assessed synoptic project and is externally quality assured by NCFE
Learners are also regularly assessed through termly cumulative assessments, Do Now activities and retrieval practice.
