Six Principles of Teaching and Learning

The Six principles linked to the teaching standards, underpin the teaching and learning within The Dorcan Academy. It is an expectation that all our teachers develop their pedagogy and practice and evaluate the service they provide constantly against these measures, and so undergo continued professional development.

Threaded throughout the demands of the Six Principles are the techniques taken from Doug Lemov’s ‘Teach Like a Champion’ and those of David Didau and Alex Quigley – literacy experts. As a community of professionals, we are committed to delivering our vision of being an Outstanding School of first choice within our local community and to do this we have researched the most up to date teaching and learning techniques. We aim for all our staff to be experts within their fields, so they deliver the best outcomes for our students.

A coaching model supports the continued development of all staff within the academy and provides the opportunity of development towards outstanding on a weekly basis.  New techniques are readily implemented and embedded within our classrooms.

You can download and view a copy of our principles in the section below.
