Dorcan Holiday Club (DHC) is usually advertised through our facebook page and all children over the age of 8 years old are welcome to apply for a place and we usually offer some free places so please book early!

Summer School 2021
Having already established our Dorcan Holiday Club (DHC) during 2020, we were delighted to be offered government funding to be able to reach out to many more local children during the Summer of 2021, this time running a three week summer school provision.
Mr Chapple visited all our local primary schools and invited approximately 180 children from Year 6 (our Year 7 intake for September 2021). The children were invited to attend over a period of three weeks from 26th July to 31st August.
We planned capacity for 60 children per day, and had 90% overall attendance in the first week, 95% in the second week, and 61% in the third week. A range of activities and learning were delivered, including both academic subjects such as maths, English and science, along with enrichment activities in arts and crafts and sport, physical education and even a short first aid course. Staffing was mostly made up of our current excellent specialist teaching and support staff including our STEM leader and SEN staff, led by Mr Chapple, along with volunteers and coaches to provide specialist support and helping children gain confidence for the transition process from primary to secondary school. This year the children also had the opportunity to meet Sir Keir Starmer.
Healthy snacks and meals were provided including an unlimited supply of fruit and water. The children really enjoyed their mealtimes, eating with the staff and having time to relax between sessions.
£29,008 was spent in delivering the summer school, of this, £24,500 was spent on staff costs and £4,500 on resources and catering.
Feedback from parents has been excellent and the children gained confidence, knowledge and new friends through their attendance.
