WOW Days at Dorcan

On Tuesday 13 September to Friday 16 September, we were very pleased to welcome our cluster schools (Covingham, Liden, Eldene, Nythe, Colebrook and Goddard Park) to participate in our WOW days to experience what The Dorcan Academy has to offer.

Upon arrival the wonderful team of senior prefects and our head boy and girl greeted the year 6 students and then attended an assembly with Mrs Bareham to talk about Dorcan and all the amazing opportunities we offer our students.

Secondly, the student leaders took their groups on a tour of the academy to show them the amazing facilities we have here at the academy. Year 6 also went on a nature trail around the school site. Well done to those who identified the most species of plants and insects 😊

In addition, students attended some WOW taster lessons, including Design and Technology, where they designed and made their own bookmarks, PE using our giant Kin-balls and students also had the opportunity to make rainbow fizz and undertake a pH testing investigation in Science. Reports were that the Y6 students thoroughly enjoyed the activities, and it provided an insight into what learning was like at Dorcan.

The primary schools experienced one of our favourite times of the day, DEAR (Drop Everything And Read), followed by a question and answer session with the head students.

Any Y6 families wishing to attend our Family Science Fair on Saturday 1 October from 10am – 11.30am please email to book (we regret we are unable to accommodate any families that have not pre-booked their places).

Finally, we would like to say a massive thank you to all the staff and visitors for such a successful event and we look forward to seeing the Y6 students in 2023!
